I have been thinking about rain frequently this week, probably because it has been so hot and I am looking for a bit of refreshing coolness that usually comes with the summer rains. This photo brought to mind the reasons I so enjoy the rain. I love to stand out in it... especially when the sky is lit with flashes of electricity and the ground shakes with the rumbles of thunder.

Driving home a couple of nights ago I noticed how tall the corn appears to be, noting that it was plenty high to fulfill the "knee high by July" rule of a "good summer". The intensity of the heat has brought out the prettiest little flowers in an interesting array of colors... I am especially fond of the tiny purple blooms that line the streets I most often travel.

So far... it's a beautiful summer.
