: "In my mind I am still 18. It's my body that thinks we are old."

We sat in silence on the front porch, watching the fight of the hummingbirds, and listening to the birds songs on the wind. At some point our conversation turned to growing up, and growing old, and my mother-in-law says to me that she still feels like a young woman, eager to get out and explore the world, followed by a very honest statement that while her mind is still young, her body is anything but. "You will never feel as old in your mind as your body makes you feel" she tells me with a sad smile, "Ain't that just a bitch?"
We laugh in agreement and then fall back into our comfortable silence.
